Character Interfacing

While working both at EyeQube Studios and UTV Animations, i was asked to build a character interface for the projects (Arjun, Don’t Touch Me, Aladin) we had been working on. Every time i would start from scratch, i ended up with something better. The last interface i made was for Don’t Touch Me. I was packed with tonnes of features including a very intuitive way for fellow riggers to use the same and taper it to their own methods. The main features included:

  • Standard control selection via buttons on a rendered image of the character.
  • Easy character switching when using multiple characters in a scene.
  • Easy access to custom attributes through Maya interface commands and swipes.
  • Precision bone/control select for offset values.
  • Facial UI and blendshape UI with rendered images of character.
  • Easy animation import/export with mirror, offset, place at current time via a defined pipeline (for libraries and immediate sharing)
  • Rig checking functionality (Quality control checks).
  • One touch model replacement.
  • Separate interface for building custom interface (For use by riggers only).
